FRESNO, Calif. -- AIM West urges support for Patty Dawson, Navajo/Apache hate crime victim in Fresno, California. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Feb. 27 and an online petition calls for justice.

"Patty was brutally beaten by a white woman, with two male accomplices, in June. The white woman now claims to be American Indian herself, in efforts to reduce the claim of a hate-crime," said Tony Gonzales of AIM West. "Keep the pressure up! If you haven’t signed the petition please do it now."

"On June 14, 2011. Jennifer Fraser and her two male accomplices pulled Patty out of her vehicle and beat her without any provocation from Patty," AIM West said.

AIM West asked these questions: "Jennifer Fraser we demand to know: Why did you and your friends do this? Was it a gang initiation? Why are you claiming that you are Native American? Why would you do this while pregnant with your child? Why are you protecting the two males involved in this incident?”

AIM West further told the Fresno County District Attorney, “We demand answers! Why wasn’t a proper investigation conducted? Why isn’t a hate crime being charged? Why weren’t the males involved in the crime charged? Why do you fail to properly document Hate Crimes in Fresno County?
